Validating Hugs

Here is Jenny’s hug story from Melinda!!!

Melinda's avatarMy Year of Hugs

This next story is from the second beautiful lady I met last week, Jenny. She is the other half of Two Meatballs Get Fit. Seriously, go check their blog out if you haven’t already. Do it! They are fun AND inspirational. Ok, on to the first of her two stories.

Jenny’s mom Elaine is not the most affectionate of parents. The whole family isn’t overly affectionate (surprising if you saw how affectionate Jenny is!), they are more of an acts of service family. You know, the kind that does for one another rather than hug and kiss. So, when Jenny does get a hug from her mom she knows it’s real. She feels validated in those moments and secure in her mother’s love for her. Every hug from her mom means the world to her and she always takes the time to appreciate them in that moment. I wish I could capture…

Two Meatballs: This Meatball gets Tenderized !

Hellllooooo!  It’s Jenny!!!  Sooooooo  there is nothing I love more then my sweet and adorable little family. They are the best time!!!! With that said………….. every girl needs some alone time.  Since I have had London, I can’t remember the last time I had a peaceful shower.  There is always someone knocking at the shower curtain needing or wanting something.  I need to shave my entire body!!!!!!!   Right ladies?!?!?!?!(thinking of Sara!!!)   Yeah it barely ever happens that I leave the shower hairless.  Brandon and London visited his mother over the weekend!!!!!  I would be lying if I didn’t say I was soo freaking excited.   When Brandon approached me with this idea,  I couldn’t stop explaining how much I supported the idea of nurturing this Father/daughter relationship.  Some quality time for those two was exactly what they needed.  And a weekend all to myself was exactly what I needed!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was the picture I received while I was at work on Saturday

20140524_144417I knew they were going to have the best time.  And I could now relax and start enjoying my weekend!!!  So I went to the mall.  I actually got to shop in complete peace.  Going shopping all alone is one of my most favorite things.  It’s kind of a detox thing for me!!  Love it.   Anyway I was there for 5 glorious hours.  And it just kinda flew by.  I definitely went shopping on the right weekend. The sales were insane, which aided in my slight shopping spree!

20140525_210358In the past, I just got comfortable with the idea that there was only a limited selection of clothing that would fit.  And these accessories always fit.  So naturally these were the first things I gravitated to at Charming Charles. Which is such a fun store for this fat girl!  My experience this visit was so different.

20140525_211244This was really validating I had lost some weight!  Typically I would be in the dressing room sweating my butt off,  because I had so much anxiety about trying clothes on and  always knowing it would not fit.  I put the first dress on and it was smooth sailing from there.   I had such a great night, I felt even more motivated about getting into the gym on Sunday!

I woke up to silence and natural sunlight!  If you have kids, you get it.  And I had my FAV coffee

20140525_071555Then I went to the gym,  in my new workout clothes!  Thanks OLD NAVY!

20140525_211100

I came home and took a shower.  It was complete silent and amazing.  I thought I would be considerate and shave every bit of hair for my massage!  I was starting to feel like a lady again!!!

20140525_094437Massage Envy was awesome. They were so friendly and professional.  Denise, who was running guest services when I walked in was the happiest woman ever.  I haven’t had a massage in 3years so I was kinda nervous,  but she put me at ease with her detailed consultation.  It felt really great being the client for a change.  Karla was my therapist that day.  She was kind, professional and very knowledgable.  She was great!!!!!!!! (yelling)  It felt so goooooooood. Go see her.

20140525_110555She was so freaked out about taking this picture!  It was adorable.  I guess I have become kinda numb to the camera.  No big deal. Strangers take pictures together all the time, right?!?!?!?

So then I went and got a mani and pedi with my sister! And an afternoon iced coffee.  I definitely have oily Massage hair! I didn’t give a shit I felt so relaxed.  And officially became a lady again!!!!

20140525_131255

I so needed this weekend.  It was just another way of taking care of my physical and mental health.  Every weekend can’t be like this, so I look forward to these days in the future.  Brandon and London got home Sunday evening and I got the biggest, most loving hugs ever!!  Hugs I will definitely have to share with our Hug guru and friend Melinda!  It’s Monday,  Bring on the hard work and discipline! #feelingfierce #mommylife #ladylegs   Thank you for the support, and we are officially in WEIGH IN COUNT DOWN MODE.  I can’t believe it is almost that time again!!!!!

Two Meatballs: New Kicks and Workout Tricks…and Fat Back Friday

If you’ve been living under a rock or you’re new to the blog…Fat Back Friday #fbf is all about a little glimpse into our former, fatter lives! So here it goes…

image image image image image

As always…We hope you enjoy our awkward, swollen, total commitment to funny no matter how ugly we look in the moment! #anythingforalaugh

Soooooo today is our first day back with Sandra from Innovative Fitness Training since we purchased the living best shoes from Fleet Feet!!!

image

We were so pumped to break them in.  We’ve also found that we have a buzzy little pre workout build up!!! Around Monday we start saying…I can’t wait to see Sandra. Her workouts are soooooo challenging but you feel such an incredible sense of accomplishment. I feel like a blankity blank champ when it’s over (this is a choose your own adventure explative)!!!!

image

This is what we do in the waiting room since we are both always early!

image image image

Ok so out little cutie patootie of a trainer Sandra told us we were going to do something different today…last week murdered us so different sounded amazing!!! Basically we had four exercises that we had to do ten reps of a piece as many rounds as possible in ten minutes!!! The first thing was you squat (are you flabbergasted?!?) Pick up ten pounds dumbbells like suitcases then do a bicep curl and the press it above your head.

image

Then push ups…Jenny did real ones!!! What a beast!

image

Then you bend forward and take a bar up under your boobs…it’s for your back!

image

Then bar over the head crunch things…

image

We did this like a million times…but really only for ten minutes!

image

Then we would do step ups for twenty seconds and rest for ten…This went on for four minutes!

image

Then the next group of exercises was…wait for it…can you even guess….it was mama frogin SQUATS!!! Best ass ever…here I come! 20 of these.

image

Then stand on the step with one leg and step down and lift the other leg out to the side…15 of these…

image

Then bicep curls…15 of these!

image image

And again as many reps as possible but eventually we added an overhead bar with the step thing!

image

So then…We did the living funnest thing…boxing!!! We did 20 seconds of right arm jabs then 20 seconds left arm jabs then…20 seconds SQUATS and double hand squeeze things then 20 seconds both arms punching! This was our favorite!

image image

Fun break…

image image

I have no idea where the energy to do this extra dumb stuff comes from but we can’t help ourselves!!!

Then we did shoulders…and shoulders and shoulders and mother nutting shoulders. This was for sure the worst one. We did ten back to back reps of each one of these for four rounds. First was ten pound weights  lifting arms out to the sides, then in front of you then above your head then body bent and raised to the sides again.

image image image image

This was awful…but it was also over!!! We are making so much progress…We love you Sandra!!!

image

So now the burning question…how were our new shoes?!? THEY WERE AMAZING!!!! We work out so much harder when we feel adorable so these new shoes not only feel great but looked so flippin cuuuuuuute! Major shout out to Fleet Feet! We love our shoes and your store. Also just another reason to love Fleet Feet…they carry plus size workout gear and do sports bra fitting. No one needs workout clothes more than overweight people…it always blows my mind that most major retailers have zero extended sizes in athletic wear…THIS MAKES NO SENSE!!! How did I find out that Fleet Feet carried plus size clothing you ask?! Because I popped in and sweet Deanna gave me a little tour and also fit me for my new fav bra!!!

image image image image image image image

So again…Thank you so much everyone at Fleet Feet…y’all have been amazing and we are soooooo happy with our purchases and so appreciative of your support!!!

It’s all fun and games

Our new BFF…please enjoy!!!

Melinda's avatarMy Year of Hugs

This next story is from one of two women I met yesterday. Sara and Jenny embarked recently on a very brave, very inspirational journey to become healthier versions of themselves. Their blog is called Two Meatballs Get Fit. You really need to check it out. They literally completely expose themselves in the hope of inspiring others and to keep themselves motivated. I will share more about them in a later post. There is so much to be said about these amazing girls, but today is about Sara and the first of her hug stories.

I just wanted to squeeze her to pieces! I just wanted to squeeze her to pieces!

With bright eyes and excitement running through her body Sara starts the conversation by saying, “Jenny and I both have more than one story to share. I hope that’s ok. I mean, I just love hugs and I love affection.” Um, of course. I will never say…

Two Meatballs: A Hug is Worth A Thousand Words!!!

image

Today we had the absolute pleasure of meeting one of the coolest women we’ve ever met! Her name is Melinda Schmitt, she is a fellow blogger and a friend of our amazing trainer Sandra Axman! Melinda’s blog is called Hug Wayfinder and she is “On a mission to prove that love can conquer all one hug at a time”.

image

How inspiring right…and honestly right up me and Jenny’s alley! Melinda reached out to us and asked if we would mind sharing our favorite/most impactful hugs with her. Of course we were game so we decided to meet at Whole Foods for the beginning of our inevitable mutual love affair! Jenny and I got adorable before we left!

image

To stay in our healthy mind set, Jenny and I took in the gorgeous weather on our little walk over, we both ordered a smoothie and picked a lovely little spot in their outside dining area as we waited to meet her!

image image

All of the sudden the cutest little pixie cut of a firecracker walks around the corner…it was love at first sight. Naturally we all hugged and she had this energy about her that puts you at ease right away!

image

Schmadorable right?! She even indulged our deluge of photo ops!

image

After the initial introductions we jumped right into our stories…being 4’s neither Jenny nor myself could narrow down our affection obsession to just one experience. I think I came out of the womb hugging, kissing and holding hands with strangers…I have no boundaries when it comes to pda!!! I’m a mouth kisser and every non touchy feely persons nightmare. I really try to respect others boundaries but my love pours out of me all day long. This is something that me and Jenny bonded over immediately.

image

We constantly maintain contact when we talk whether it’s snuggling in a meeting…

image

Or sitting on each others laps…We just love one another so much…I’m so thankful to be on this journey together…anywhoozie I digress (shocking)…

image

I don’t want to over share our stories bc we will add a link when Melinda posts them on her own blog but a spoiler alert is fair right?! Jenny shared hugs from her mother and her daughter and my two stories involved a game I made with my nephews and picking my bestie, Katie up from the airport!!!

image image image image

Melinda soaked up every word and told us her own stories and how her blog came about. She was fascinating, engaging and so warm…imagine that from a hugger?!? Our meeting time flew by and I didn’t want it to end. I don’t want to speak for others…but I’m going to!!! I feel like we left as friends. We closed our date with a group hug…what’s more appropriate than that. Hug everyone you see today and we love you all!!!!

image

Two Meatballs: Do You Smell What The Meatballs Are Cooookin’?!

So this has become our favorite weekly segment…We are living out all of our inner Julia Child fantasies…or more realistically…The Swedish Chef. We take personality tests at work and you are a combination of the numbers one through four! Shocker…Jenny and I are the exact same number…We are raging 4’s!!! A little background in these numbers…4’s are wildely creative, can’t live inside of a box, struggle to follow rules, have impulse control issues, innovators, we have major attention deficit disorder, absolutely adorable, free spirited and our favorite question is “what if”…sound familiar ding ding it’s us!!!

image image image

I’m telling you this so you can imagine what a Fucking disaster my kitchen turns into when you let the two of us loose!!! But I don’t know who has more fun than us?! Anyways, my mom brought over roses from her garden and between that and our cooking music…The mood was set and we were ready to create!

image image

So…now that I’ve rambled for forty five years I’ll tell you what’s on the menu! We made Veggie Fried Rice and Honey Ginger Chicken. Asian food has always been a shared fatty craving of ours so learning how to make healthier versions help us not go to the dark side…You know what I’m talking about right ladies?! Jenny made the fried rice and I made the chicken…I don’t know why bc of my fear of salmonella!!! Immersion therapy?!

image

I came up with a foil counter top thing to avoid chicken death…#cray
Ok so here are the recipes and us in action!!! This recipe courtesy of Paleo Pot via Pinterest!

image image image image image

Then we ADD’d out and had an impromptu dance party…bc you can’t NOT dance to Queen Bey!!!

image image image image

Back to work…jk snack time!!!

image

Now back to work…nope still jackassing around!!!

image

Ok for reals…no more squirelling around! Onto the yummy chicken…recipe courtesy of Table for Two via Pinterest!

image image image image image image

Surprise dance break!!! This playlist just won’t quit!

image image image image

Ok back to work…

image

My house smells amazing and the clean up wasn’t so tragic and we got to spend so much fun time together!!!

image image

Everything is so yummy!!! And we love you guys…have the best day EVER!!! Ps…Jenny just started singing Whoomp…there it is!!! Now I’m going to be singing this all night!!!! #yourwelcome

image

Two Meatballs: Get the Funk Over It!!!

image

So my frustrations have taken over and I haven’t been feeling my normal cheery self!!! So what’s a girl to do?!? I’m holding strong at the same mother Farting weight for over two weeks now. Logically I know that I see and feel a difference in my body but my analytical brain wants to see that frogging number on my scale change!!!!  The completely illogical part of my brain…I guess that’s called my heart wants to do damage to the scale…clearly this is a personal attack right?!? I want to pick it up and throw it…but that would be displacing my anger!!!

image

My scale does not have a vendetta against me…unless it does and then game on bitch! Ok it feels nice to get that crazy rant out. So really…what’s a girl to do? Between my dumb dumb gimp foot and my plateaued weight I’m feeling a little down…which is an unfamiliar new territory in my world. Time with my family and time in the sun always makes me feel better so over the weekend I had a sleepover with my oldest nephew and then went to my sister’s pool opening/bbq with our family and friends!

image image image image image

I even baked a lovely dessert which is my new creative outlet!

image

Then today, I decided to spend my day doing more things that make me happy! First…I washed my disgusting hair (a week, three workouts and the pool might be too much even for my dry ass hair) and put on a super cute outfit which makes me feel adorable. Then I went to work, set up for class and knocked out all of my paperwork. Feeling productive makes me feel like a champ. Then I went to my happy place…Bella Nails to see my sweet Lee and get a manicure. This has become a great place for me to think about the blog and to be quiet for once in my life…well somewhat quiet! Bella is next to Samuel Cole Salon and its my little oasis. It’s the only thing I do for myself that isn’t some form of torture. And no matter what size I am…any color that I want fits me! Lee is amazing and I highly recommend her. However if you can’t get in with her literally everyone there is fantastic and super friendly.

image image image image image image

After my mani and quiet reflective time I remembered it always makes me feel good to do something nice for someone else. So I brought my sweet mom a coffee and we ended up going to Torrid to find some cute tops…I am not above retail therapy!

image

Twins!!!! My mom and I literally look exactly alike and I love her so much, she always makes me smile. She is such a great listener and she always has great advice. She also cracks me up and she’s the most loyal, giving, thoughtful human on earth. I’m feeling so much better and today was much needed. You have to take care of yourself…emotionally just as much as physically!!!! Thank you everyone for putting up with my grumbly grump of a self lately! I’m feeling back to normal…nowwwwww time to change that scale. Love you all!!!!!!

Two Meatballs: If the Shoe Fits…Buy It!!!

Weeeeee did!!!!! Hiiiiiiii you guys!!! Jenny and I were both DESPERATE for new sneaks and we also thought this would be a great opportunity to get us out of our slump! We both feel more motivated when we love what we are wearing to workout. The cuter we feel the harder we workout. So…We decided to support our neighborhood shoe store…Fleet Feet and we loved the experience. Not being runners we felt slightly intimidated but our experience was soooooo fun. We were greeted by very tall, very fit humans. Katie and Tom helped fit us with new shoes that we love. The fitting was a real process!!!

image

First, you take your shoes off and they crouch on the ground and watch you catwalk it. Then they ask you the most embarrassing question…how old are your current sneakers!!! Mine were six years old and Jenny set a store record…10 years!!!! It was hilarious. Then you measure your foot.

image image

Spoiler alert…I was wearing the wrong size…no wonder I hate wearing shoes so much!!! Then you pick a shoe that works best with your issues!

image

There were tons of options but because of my foot width and size…My options were limited…which is a feeling I’m all too used to! But these shoes we tried on felt amazing!!! They felt so good in fact we had to bust a move! Think Elaine from Seinfeld!!!

image image

Nothing makes you feel older than dress clothes and tennis shoes…am I right ladies!!! Then you have to run while they watch you…these guys were serious voyeurs winky face!

image image

We both fell in love with how great our shoes felt and we were ready to purchase with zero remorse. We’ve been working out so hard and now it’s going to feel even better.

image image

We loved our super helpful personal shoe gurus…We felt like adorable little Cinderella’s!!! Jenny’s shoes were so incredible they made her grow like a whole foot!!! Ta-da!!!

image image

Fleet Feet had more than just shoes…they have all kinds of fun workout gear…they even have wedgie free undies. Bucket list?!

image

Good shoes are so important! We’ve both had better workouts since we made our new purchases!!! So, if you are in the market for some new kicks come to Fleet Feet…it’s three doors down from Samuel Cole Salon!!! Hang out with our new buddies…Katie, Tom and Brent!!! Thanks so much you guys…We will mos def be back!

image image

Two Meatballs: Fat Back Friday and The Perfect Excuse!!!

image

Hiiiiiiiii…is this getting predictable?!? Happy Fat Back Friday!!! We really dug deep this week and found some pretty ugly pictures!!! You’re welcome!

image image image image image

Grosssssss…we were so swollen!!! Ok so onto the good stuff! I woke up Wednesday morning (this is Sara) and I had inadvertently slept in a yoga pose causing my flat foot to be pointed all night!!! It hurts like a bitch and won’t stop cramping!!! I’ve iced it, I’ve soaked it, I’ve massaged it, I rolled it on a tennis ball, I’ve elevated it, I’ve taken Motrin, I have a chiropractor appointment on Monday so I’m being proactive as f but it still hurts. A hurt foot is the perfect excuse not to workout…but you guys….I didn’t use it!!! Jenny picked me up yesterday and shocker…we were wearing matching outfits unintentionally!!!

image image image

I tried to not think about my foot and we were so pumped to see Sandra Axman of Innovative Fitness Training!!!

image

As you know…we love Sandra and can’t wait to see her and get our collective assess kicked every week. Boy were we in for a surprise. As per usual we did something completely different and you guys…it was so mother farting hard!!!! We did high intensity interval training! There were 7 stations and we did 4 rounds of each and then hit the core hard as a wrap up…I was completely dead by round two!!! We started with step ups and then did push ups on the bossu(sp) ball!!! Jenny started at her ball with hate!

image

Then we did squats with arms…

image image

Then we did trx squats to side leg lifts…

image

Then a clean lift with the bar…

image image image

Then we did trx speed skaters…

image

Then we did hamstring things…

image

Then Abs Abs abs and PLANKING!!!

image

I’ve never been so done before and so early on into the workout!!! We didn’t speak to each other once…there was no dance breaks just survival!!! But it’s exactly what we needed…hurt foot be damned! Here is the aftermath…enjoy your weekend guys!!!

image image

Two Meatballs: What’s Cookin’ Good Lookin’?!

Hiiiiiiii! So last time we spoke we were super dee duper frustrated with life!!! So we sat down together and made a list of things to help us get excited about our journey again!!! At the top of that list was NEW RECIPES!!! I don’t know about you…but I very easily get stuck in a rut and start buying the same things over and over again until I want to barf just thinking about it…hello egg muffins!!! So we got onto Pinterest (meatballsgetfit) and started pinning everything that looked different and out of our comfort zone. Jenny came over and we decided to make paleo cashew chicken and cauliflower rice because we both love Asian food so much…spoiler alert I forked up the rice and it quickly became cauliflower mashed potatoes #nothingsaysasianlikemashedpotatoes…woops! Also if you follow us on instagram (twomeatballsgetfit) you know I’m obsessed with my veggie spiraler that I got on Amazon. This and a food processor have been my saviour from feeling deprived on paleo!!! It takes any tippy veggie and you crank out a pasta like ribbon…without the guilt.

image

GEFU Spirelli Spiral Slicer

Jenny tried my squash pasta at lunch today and she loved it…as she mentioned before she can’t get on board with spaghetti squash but really liked the texture of normal yellow squash pasta…it’s so good!!! So she simultaneously made my squash pasta Florentine with prosciutto and Turkey meatballs creation while I made the cashew chicken. We have so much fun together no matter what we do…so it was nice to tackle a project that’s going to nourish us and keep things interesting! Here are our recipes and pictures…we hope you enjoy!!! Also you’ll notice lots of pictures of me washing hands and scrubbing counters…I have an irrational fear of death by salmonella poisoning and its a real problem for me and not something many people know…now you know me a little better!!! #obsession Xoxo we love you.
First we set the mood with music…

image

Then we got adorable…

image

We couldn’t be happier to be together!

image image image image image image image image image image image

Ok onto the squahta as I like to call it…do you see what I did there??!!
3-4 medium yellow squash
1 small package of sliced prosciutto
4 Turkey meatballs (we got all if these things from Trader Joe’s)
1/2 bag of organic spinach
2 Tbsp of avocado oil
3 gives garlic minced
Dried basil, oregano, salt and pepper to taste
Ok so first heat up a pan on medium high heat…add avocado oil and garlic. Spiral your squash noodles right into the  pan and add your spinach, prosciutto and your microwave heated Turkey meatballs. Then sprinkle your spices and let cook while occasionally stirring for ten minutes or until squash is cooked through. Then eat it you nut…it’s soooooo flippin good!!!!

image image image image image image

Here’s the aftermath!!!

image image image

Make this stuff and share it with your friends!!! Use your frustrations for good, not evil!
