Two Meatballs: Don’t Worry TV…We Brought Our Own 10 Pounds!!!

Wellllll….it happened! We made our big tv debut on Wral!

I wanted to barf allllll day long on Friday…what did we say…how did we look…what pictures did they choose to use…how can we look thinner if the camera adds ten pounds!?!? Jenny called me around 2 and we decided…duh we should watch this together.  So I brought some coffee and all my nerves over to her house at 5.  We were both sweaty and soooo excited.  Adorable Bill Leslie posted about the interview on his Facebook page and we just couldn’t wait!

That alone felt huge!!! So at 5:30, we turned the tv on to the news!!!  Jenny’s daughter London was def not in love with this idea!!! She was jonzing for Peppa Pig…so we played some games to distract her!

We couldn’t have asked for a better story.  We had no idea the angle they were going to take and to focus so completely on our amazing friendship was incredible.  We sat on the couch holding hands and I found myself getting really chocked up.  Sometimes bc we live it every single day, you can’t see someone else’s perspective of the situation.  We have an AMAZING bond and we really love each other so much.  It feels so nice that someone captured that and was able to articulate it so well.  Bill Leslie, we are so grateful to you for this gift and opportunity!!!  Once the initial shock of it wore off we watched it again and were relieved!  We looked great, sounded smart, were very true to ourselves (I could have been a tad less intense but what’s new there winky face).  The pictures that they chose…we loved!  Everything went great!!!!!  And the outpouring of support on social media and in real life has been so humbling!

First tv appearance…check!!!!  Thanks to everyone who tuned in and reached out. And thanks again Melinda!!!  The next morning at the gym a guy recognized me…he said…were you on the news!?!!!!

My life is complete!!!!  And Jenny’s clients on Saturday could not get enough!!!  You guys are the living best.  Now…Ellen should be calling any day right!!??  What better way to celebrate the greatest meatball accomplishment than getting all gussied up for our Samuel Cole Salon Education Team Christmas Dinner (I never know when to capitalize and when not to…i’m certain its not right but it works!).  We got ready together and then headed over to Cara’s to scoop her up on the way downtown!

We walked into Gravy…we were the last ones which for the three of us is COMPLETELY unheard of but like every street was closed off dt!  Can I just say, I love this group.  We are all educators at the salon and we have such an awesome relationship…and amazing bosses! Our table wasn’t ready so we packed in at the bar and annoyed everyone around us with a million pictures….love this little sammie cole fam!

Two Meatballs: Inspiration for Beys!!! (did you see what I did there!?)

Another weigh in down!!!  Another holiday down!!!  A few more pounds down or at least none gained!!!  Jenny and I both have really learned our Achilles heel is not planning.  We both did so well on Thanksgiving because we actually planned and brought with us healthy, paleo food. Buuuuut for the rest of the month we both struggled to remember all the things that brought us to our current, healthier lives!  So note to self…plan plan plan plan!!!!  Also, we’re almost at 1000 likes on Facebook…so if you haven’t liked us yet it’s Two Meatballs Get Fit!!!

I love you Krystal…thank you so much for making me feel amazing for every wedding, bobbies, photo shoot, birthday…major life event!  You are my favorite!!!  Ok so now that weigh in is over…how do we start this month out right!?  Remembering what works!?  Cooking at home!?  I have been having an irrational craving for Chinese food…so I crock potted some beef and broccoli…and you guys!!!  It was everything I dreamed it would be!!!  Here is the recipe…

Ps…add wayyyyy more spices than necessary to give this soup a more warming affect!

Two Meatballs: We Gon’ Be on TV Y’all!!!!

You guyyyys!!!  We are going to be on TV!!!!!  I mean dreams are coming true!!!!  Is this the thing that happens right before we get on Ellen!?!  So as you saw, WRAL came out and filmed our workout last Thursday!  Well….Monday morning the man himself, Bill Leslie came to the salon to interview us!!!  AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!  I cannot even explain the level of excitement.  This will be part of his Good Things Segment and will air next Friday, December the 5th at around 5:50pm( we thought it would be this Friday but football won!) on your local WRAL station.  Here is some behind the scenes action!

It was exciting and sweaty and so totally natural all at the same time!  Bill Leslie and his camera operator Keith were amazing and hilarious and adorable!  Hopefully it turns out well and we represented ourselves accurately and we don’t Ricky Bobby our hands!!!  Ok so don’t miss it…next Friday, December 5th at 5:50pm on WRAL! We posted a blog about Fleet Feet on May 19th (Two Meatballs: If the Shoe Fits…Buy It!) bc we work three doors down and were both in desperate need of new shoes for our new life!

 Fleet Feet always seemed kind of intimidating bc we were the furthest thing from runners…but you guys…WE HAD THE BEST EXPERIENCE! Tom and Katie took such good care of us.

We actually recreated all of these past shots for fun!  We subbed in Ryan bc Tom has left for a life of fame!!!

 We reached out to their marketing guru, Jacob and he cross promoted our blog.  And a relationship was born.  So last week after we got the great news about Bill Leslie and our start to fame…Jacob reached out and offered us an opportunity to partner up for a program they are launching in the new year called Ton of Fun!

Two Meatballs: A Sea of Thank You’s!!!

With Thanksgiving coming up these Meatballs have so much to be thankful for. First off let me say thank you so much for the birthday wishes, flowers, cards, paleo desserts, mixed cd’s #thankskelly, gifts and facebook love!!!  It really was the living best day of life! Being thankful has really become a theme for us over the past couple of weeks and I love it.  Life is so much easier and perspective is so different if you live in a constant attempted state of grateful.  With this theme in mind we wanted to continue thanking our weigh in photo shooters!  So tonight was Cara Dempsey night at our most favorite place on earth Coquette. Cara said fries were her weakness so what better place to go! Right away we ran into some of my favorite clients… the Wicklines!!!  Shout out to Jen, Ryan and the fam!!!

We had the best conversations and sooo many laughs!!! Our next segment is a little get to know you sesh with our dear buddy Sandra!!!  She has been so incredibly instrumental in our journey to fitness and wellness.  She has taught us how to take care of ourselves physically and believed we were capable of more than we ever thought possible.  It feels so nice to feel strong!  Talk about empowering!  So we want for you to get to know our amazing trainer a little bit better!!!  I mean look at her…why are you not already seeing this woman!

1. How and when did you find fitness?

I was a dedicated athlete in high school and active during college, but I struggled to find a place for fitness after college when I entered the workforce. Plagued by unhealthy eating and lifestyle habits, my weight spiraled out of control. I hit my breaking point when the scale reached 160 lbs and my 5’2” frame was wearing a size 14. Fortunately, I found my way back to a healthy weight through healthy eating and exercise. I exercise because I love what it does to my body both physically and mentally. Proper nutrition affects the way you feel throughout the day and gives you the energy you need to get through that workout. I can truly say that I FEEL better today than when I was in my early 20’s.

2. What was your biggest weight struggle in the past?

My weight spiraled out of control when I was in my late 20s due to unhealthy eating and lifestyle habits. For years, I always found it a struggle to find a “diet” that would work for me and become a lifestyle. Today, I follow a very clean diet eating lots of proteins, vegetables, fruit and nuts. I stay away from processed foods, grains, and I try my hardest to avoid gluten. This past year, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease, and I’ve been struggling with the fact that I’ve actually gained weight despite the clean eating. It is certainly a mental struggle but I’m going to keep pushing hard and continue eating clean because I truly feel better eating this way.

3. How do you set yourself up for success?

Three things: 1) Surround yourself with positive influences and those that reflect who you want to be and how you want to feel. 2) Plan Ahead. Portion out your proteins and healthy snacks and prep your veggies, salads, and fruit ahead of time so you don’t get tempted when you are hungry. 3) Make your workouts an appointment on your calendar. If you don’t make it a priority, it will get pushed further into the day and sometimes never get done.

4) How have your recent health issues affected your journey?

We are all on our own journey to good health. I eat clean and exercise so that I can feel strong, have energy and feel well. Unfortunately, in the past year, I became excessively tired, irritable, moody, anxious and even depressed on occasion. To make matters worse, I was gaining weight despite eating a clean diet and training consistently. It was determined that my thyroid gland was underactive (Hashimotos disease) and that I have high levels of metals, particularly mercury and lead, in my system. These metals are blocking my thyroid gland from making hormones and getting my metabolism going.

To address this issue, I now follow a strict Paleo-type diet. It has actually made me more disciplined because I hit a breaking point where I was just so tired of feeling bad. To be honest, I actually enjoy eating this healthy and cannot see me ever going back to how I used to eat before. While my weight is still an issue, I have to keep reminding myself that I am human too. Just because I am a trainer, sometimes there are outside factors interfere with your fitness journey. You can’t let them get in the way of your overall goal. I know I will overcome this. I am too strong to give up now.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH…I mean could this week get any better!?  He is coming to the salon to interview us on Monday morning but today they sent a super awesome camera man, Tom Normanly to shoot us working out with Sandra!  And boy did she give it to us today!

Tom was so fun and you could see him shimmying to the music that was blasting over the speakers.  He told us after he got his shots that he was on his own journey and had just lost 100 pounds!!!  Incredible Tom!!!!  We are always amazed at how universal this struggle is and it’s so inspiring to meet other people in the same journey!  Xoxo Tom!  We don’t know when the segment is going to air but as soon as we do we will post it!!!
