So we did the shoot for our weigh in!!!  It’s always so exciting but it is def getting harder to think of new things to do!!! But we are super excited with our progress! #sneakypeeky!

While editing the pictures I noticed that my hair had suddenly gotten dark and I was ready for a change!  I always have these brilliant ideas AFTER we take the pictures!!!! #ohwell So thanks to my buddy Lauren Munns  who is the living best…I got a little summer pick me up yesterday!!!

I blew my hair out with my new amazing blow dryer and flat iron that I got from our buddy Alejandro and his new amazing company Pro Hair Kit!!!  If you are a stylist you should be getting all of your tools directly from this incredibly talented hair genius.  We love you Alejandro!!!! #hairhero

Nowwwww…my sweet little baby boo turned 8 yesterday!!!  Wyatt is so mother flippin grown and wayyyyy too cool for school.  We went to Kanki as we have EVERY single year of this kids life…what a fun little family tradition! This is us last year! #iamawalrus

Two Meatballs: Journey to the center of a Meatball!

Hello!!!  Soooo. There is someone very special to me that I would love to share with you.  (Quiet chant) Brandon Brandon Brandon.  You guys……I love him!   Look at this sweet boy!!!!!

I met Brandon when I was 21.  Mutual friends knew we would make a perfectly odd couple.  And we are.  We are both funny little creatures.  Both with a passion for music, film and most any art form.  When I met Brandon I definitely had a huge wall.  I was never prepared to let anyone into my strange little private world.  But I had never met anyone like him. A natural communicator.  He loved to talk about everything and wanted to know how I felt about everything.  When problems would rise and I was ready to check out, he would say absolutely not, let’s sit down and talk, WHATs GOING ON IN THAT HEAD OF YOURS?!?!  And for the first time someone got to know me.  And we do everything together.

Two Meatballs: My Weekend Was Amazing, Thank You For Asking!?!

NYC was the living best time but it is so nice to get back into a routine when you are trying to change your life!  I wasn’t super successful at getting RIGHT back into the swing of things though.  I got home late Sunday night and the rest of the week felt rushed…I never really made it to the grocery store or the gym until Thursday with Sandra.  My boss Joelle and I had Mega 1 on 1’s with every stylist this week which is literally my favorite thing on earth!  But even this made my routine that much harder to get back to.  If you fail to plan you plan to fail…but I made the best of it!!! I made the healthiest on the fly choices that I could…lots of Whole Foods smoothies, Chipotle, ugh Steak Frites at Coquette (that was a choice!)… I even put on an old dress so I could see how far I’ve come…

The picture on the left is from our company holiday party, The Bobbies from 2 years ago.  It’s supposed to be a drape-y dress but I was packed in their tight!!!  It now fits how it was intended to when I bought it!!!  And it feels amazing!  I think I have always been a happy person but I had no idea I could have this much energy and be THIS much happier!!!  Who knew #pollyanna

This dress motivated me to wake up early friday morning and get my ass to the gym. But before I did that, I posted our Sandra post for the week and guess what you guys…Friday marked out 100th post!!!!  (imagine balloons and confetti bombs exploding from the sky…or that’s what I imagine!)

I met my adorable dad and we did chest and tri’s and I got my mile on the lateral x down to 9:19 and 1.5 miles in 15 minutes.  I’m really starting to feel powerful in there and look at the difference!

So we went downtown to The Natural Science Museum and explored nature, dinosaurs (my favorite) and the new wing.

I closed up the week by really sinking back into what has been working for me!  Gym time with the fam!

Two Meatballs: Double the TABATA’S!!!

Oh my gracious it feels good to be home and attempting to get back into a routine!!!  You know that your life has really changed when you look forward to a beating at the gym with Sandra!  Also I’ve been in meetings all week so it was exciting to know that I would have some dedicated Meatball time with my sweet Jenny!  Here is the car selfie!!!

WE both go through phases of feeling super fat faced and today was one of those days!

This was a better view and we both were sporting some super cute old navy tanks!  Then we got real ugly and dumb bc its our favorite and yours too!

Today was double TABATA’s with Sandra!!!!  We started with a jog…

Then we walked backwards in a crouch position…

Then we did a little segment I like to call…fuck that kettle bell!  So round 1 we had 1 minute to do 10 KB swings…round 2-12 KB swings and on and on until we hit 22 swings!!!  In total we did 112 kettle bell swings…right off the bat!

That was our WARM UP!!!! I was already a sweaty mess!!!  Then we did one of us on trx push ups and the other on 2- 25 lb kettle bell dead lifts for 8 rounds of 20 seconds and then we switched!

Then we did modified mountain climbers for 20 seconds then squat to bicep curls for 20 seconds for 8 rounds!

Then we did one arm shoulder presses for 20 seconds and trx squat rows for 20 seconds for 8 rounds!!!

Theeeeeennnnn we did 4 rounds of 30 second planks!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOF!

Sandra kept saying this is a really hard workout you guys!!!  That makes us feel really great!  We have made soooooo much progress!

Two Meatballs: Body By Hannah!!!!

First off I want to say I am really noticing big changes in my life!  This trip to New York marked several milestone for me.  The biggest of those was when I buckled my seat belt on the plane…with noooo seat belt extender.  You guyyyys I almost started bawling!

I couldn’t really get the right angle in the pic above but I was beyond thrilled. Talk about a tangible Richter scale of progress! Then I noticed that as we landed I wanted to be off that plane so I could start moving around! I literally couldn’t get down the stairs quickly enough.  My life has changed drastically…I want to be active…who am I!?  This trend continued throughout the entire trip.  Katie and I walked so much and really just never stopped moving…which made the two orders of fries that I ate not seem as bad!  Another big change was this was the first birthday maybe ever with Katie that I didn’t drink…a drop!  This was surprisingly un-hard.  And you’re never going to guess what…I had just as much fun without any hang over.  The support for these choices is always really touching.  Most of the time I get to somewhat hide behind a computer screen and say my piece but when someone asks you in real life why you aren’t drinking and you have to be honest and face to face with a group of relative strangers about your binge drinking problem…it gets real!  Anyways on to sweet Hannah!

My lovely friend Meredith Locklear has been such a great supporter of the blog!!!  We go way back to the Cat Banjo days and I was even her stylist for awhile! She is the owner of Jack + Mo Design Agency  http://www.jackandmo.com and she is sooo chock full of talent!  She is also friends with some pretty amazing people, one of whom she put me in contact with!!!  Hannah Davis is a personal trainer to the stars, advisory board member of Cosmopolitan Magazine and  Co-Founder of Gotham Versatile Training in NYC.  Here is a little Q&A to get to know this amazing woman a little better!

Q: When did you discover your passion for fitness and nutrition?!

A: “I discovered my passion for lifting heavy things in high school when I took a weight lifting class my senior year so I could flirt with boys! I learned I was more interested in lifting that the dudes!  Nutrition came later in life about halfway through college when I realized I would never see the results in my body that I wanted to see unless good nutrition was part of the equation.”

Q: How did you end up in NYC?

A:  “I had plans to go to NYC from when I was like 16!  I loved Broadway and a big city!  It was the land of opportunity!”

Q: What is your biggest message for someone trying to get healthy?

A: “My biggest message for someone trying to get healthy and fit is to be consistent and then to be PATIENT.  Fitness and health are lifestyle choices and one needs to let it be the process it always is.”

Q: Tell me about your clientele?

A: “I tend to work with CEO’s, magazine editors, models, and your everyday person looking to make fitness a part of their life.  It is very rewarding to be able to work with someone for years (literally) and see the progress!”

Q: Tuesday I posted that you worked for Cosmo.com (which was incorrect…get your shit together Beard!)  but you are actually a board member for Cosmopolitan Magazine…how did that come to be?!

A: “I worked with the Cosmo fitness editor (when she was freelancing) one time on an article she was writing for Women’s Health magazine.  We just really clicked and when she landed the job at Cosmo, she reached out to me to do a workout feature for them and the relationship built from there! I don’t work at Cosmo.com although I have done workout videos for them as well as contributions to other health and fitness magazines such as Women’s Health and Fitness Mag.”

Hannah reached out to me and said anytime you guys are in New York I would love to train you!!!  So when I decided to fly up for Katie’s birthday I reached back out and a date was set!  Sandra of Innovative Fitness Training  has so thoroughly prepared us for anything that I just felt super excited instead of completely intimidated and Hannah said that Katie could come as well!  So Saturday morning Katie and I threw on our new Urban Cricket tanks and hopped a cab up to 28th street and were greeted by the cutest little cutie!

This training facility was amazing to boot!

There were things I hadn’t seen before…so many workout toys!  First we started by talking about goals and limitations.  Hannah has a great energy about her and you can tell that she is really passionate about what she does.  Then we did some stretching and a yoga style warm up!

Then it was on to a 4 station circuit that we did for 4 rounds alternating between 45 and 30 seconds per station.

First was the giant ropes that you could either double dutch or slam.

Then we did 20lb kettle bell swings…

Then an awesome Price is Right spin that prize wheel style never ending rope…

And finishing up with squats and overhead medicine ball tosses…

This part seemed to never end!!!  Those kettle bells are my enemy but I loved trying out the new pull down rope…I felt like a beast!

Then we moved on to TRX squats (Katie’s modification was to add a jump on the upswing) alternating with incline push ups!

We did this for four rounds!!!  Then it was time to run with a heavy ass sled!

We alternating running back and forth for four rounds…I almost saw starts but honestly nothing makes you feel stronger!!!

Then it was time for wood cutters…four rounds of this as well…

Then we did the finisher which was a doozy…think stair climber but with a ladder!!!!

Special shout out to this little cutie who indulged all of our photo ops! Katie and I haven’t worked out together in probably 7 years and it felt so nice to sweat through a really challenging workout together!!!  What doesn’t kill you only makes your friendship stronger right!?  So, Katie thank you so much for being my meatball sub!

Two Meatballs: Have Cake pops and eat em too!!

I love chocolate I love chocolate………  And so does everyone at work! Since Sara and I started this new lifestyle, our crazy awesome work family has been 100% behind us.  Aaaaaamazing they are!!! We usually celebrate birthdays at work with huge sugary cakes that I fall weak to every time.  I think we have two birthdays every 3 weeks.  U mmmmmm that’s a lot of cake!!!! You walk into work and this is what you see ………

I would usually always have cake. It was always a mid day pick me up, resulting in an energy crash later with absolutely no energy.  No bueno!!!! And I loved it!! Crazy.  Well in the break room we started talking about cake pops!  And our co work Nikki was having a birthday, who always appreciates a healthy option.  So without thinking I jumped  at the opportunity to make paleo cake pops!!!   Here is sweet Nikki and Sara at our work party “the bobbieswpid-img_165944296233977.jpeg

 

Welll it was also Joelle’s birthday too !!!! ( salon owner).  And now it was time to get to work and start cooking.  So I found a recipe on Pinterest.

Two Meatballs: S.Biddy and K.Tiddy take over Tha.City!!!

You guyyyyyyysssss…so many amazing things happened this weekend! First, I got to spend an entire weekend with my K.Tizzle for her 30th birthday in the greatest city on earth…NYC!!!! Her birthday also marks our friendversary of 30 years since we’ve known each other forever!!!  So we began the celebration at Catch…the yummiest place ever!

Katie and I haven’t lived in the same city for almost a decade now and absence really does make the heart grow fonder!!!  The conversations never end but at the same time…we don’t actually have to say anything.  Our powers of unspoken communication have really taken off…insert judgy face!

Catch was sooooo yummy and there were so many paleo friendly choices!  We split some crispy shrimp and a sushi roll called The General…both were amazing and super non paleo and then I had scallops for an entree and Katie had the grilled octopus!!!  Best little dinner ever!  Then it was off to shopping and coffee…we knew we both had a long night ahead!

It should be noted that even though there is no way you could see our legs in the cheersing coffee picture…we both have one foot up a la first kiss pose!!!  I love this girl sooooo much…and I love 9th Street Espresso inside of Chelsea Market!!!  Best coffee in the city. Then it was time to go out and celebrate!!!  We started at La Botega…

This is me reverse planking at the bar(activity points?!)…we also had spinny stools so that we could look at everyone!! The DJ was playing the most random music and our bartender was totes adorbs!  Katie had some amazing looking drinks that I look forward to trying in six months!!!  The sobriety thing wasn’t tough at all though!  Then we went back to our gorgeous hotel, The Dream Downtown and their DJ was even better.  When I walk in to Lauren Hill and then Bobby Brown, this girl is happy!  We had a few more drinks there and took in the beauty that is The Dream from our sweet little banquette.

Then it was suddenly very late! We went back to the room and had a sleepover.  You guyyyyys….I LIVE FOR  A SLEEPOVER!!! I feel like as a grown ass adult, you very rarely get to share the bed with your super best buddy for more laughter, nightly recaps and pillow talk!!??

The next morning we hit the ground running and went straight to Chelsea Market…

Then we bought tank tops and art in a pop up art instillation…look at this excellent marketing! A huge sign that just says COME OVER HERE…we did and Urban Cricket….loved everything we purchased! I mean a What Would Dolly Do tank and Good Things Come To Those Who Hustle!?!?! #genius #thatamericanflagisinourhotelanditsbeercans

Then, a friend of my client Meredith reached out to work out with us!!!  She is a fitness editor for Cosmo.com and the owner of Body by Hannah…and she slayed us!!!  We met her mid day Saturday and got a workout of a lifetime!!!  She was adorable and hilarious!  I will do a separate post this week about that awesome experience but here is a sneaky peaky.

We could barely make it down the stairs after this hour with Hannah…I felt like a Batman villan!!!  So we went to lunch to refuel!  We chose the Green Table and it was delish!

We had market fresh veggies, a salad with grilled chicken and then I got a fresh pressed juice for dessert!!!

Then we got ready to meet Abbie…a college pal from Raleigh and her husband Pat and friends Matt and Ronnie (haha) at a bar called the Drop Off Service.

This night and this group of people ended up being so fucking fun that we cancelled our reservations at Buddahkan and schlepped it to Brooklyn for the night!

We had an amazing diner at Walter Food’s and then ran into Ray from HBO’s Girls and we was the living nicest!!!

This little group of people…the A team as it were ended up being the funnest part of the trip!  I love when people just get along sight unseen! The childhood references and unstoppable laughter was the tits.  I love smart people! Can’t wait to see y’all again! xoxoxo

The next day we slept in and recovered from our late night in Brooklyn.  We decided that brunch was a great way to go and our super hot doorman told us to go to Bubby’s.  You guys I’m not kidding about the doormen at The Dream…ladies do yourself a favor. I DIGRESS,  I love a recommendation!  And it was excellent!

Then we walked The Highline!!!  This was gorgeous!

Then on our way to Warby Parker we noticed that someone was shooting something!  But we couldn’t figure out what it was.

He was hilarious and insulting in the best way!  He told me one of the pairs of glasses that I tried on looked like I stole them from a childs face…bahahahahhhahahaha! And as we were leaving we found out that they were filming HBO’s The Newsroom…hello Olivia Munns who I was just talking about last night! HBO you made my trip!!!

Then we decided to google what a 30 year anniversary gift is…turns out its diamonds…so we treated ourselves to some earrings!!!  Happy friendsversary!!!!

My flight was quickly approaching after this yummy meal! We walked our little Meatpacking District neighborhood one last time, walked back to the hotel to get our baggage and then had the best goodbye hug of life!  I wish someone had captured it!!!   Katie I just love you so much!  I am thankful everyday to have you in my life and I hope that everyone is so lucky.  Happy 30th and Happy Anniversary!!! I miss you already!

Two Meatballs: A meatball keeps it together?!!!!

Hiiiiiiii!!!  Let me start by saying……….. I feel amazing!!!!!!!!  Strong is the new skinny……am I right ladies?!?  More then my body being healthy, my mind feels soo clear. Is this just a short term paleo effect? I hope not!!  People always ask me if I am craving bread or pasta yet….. Im not!! I am always surprised when I hear myself say it aloud.  Because I have NEVER felt like this before. WTF?!?!  My challenge these days is not getting bored with my daily  cardio/activity.   Anyway…..Saturday s at the salon are busy, in the best way!! But it definitely feels chaotic. Everyone wants to know what we are doing for lunch and who is the lucky person sent to pick it up.  Well this Saturday it was pizza.  My favvvvvvvv! Look it’s Katie !! Love you!!!

I love pizza.  And when u are just about to lose steam for the day you start having those really bad thoughts. I tried so hard to convince myself to have a piece.  But I knew one piece would be three. And I would have the pizza sweats the rest of the day with my clients….aaaaaa no thank you!!  Soooo I just drank a big glass of amazing, organic, gluten and dairy free water!!  Yayyyyyy ( the saddest yay ever)

Oh yeah that cake was delicious. Wanna know how I know……. Because everyone kept saying, ” yes, this is probably the best cake ever”.  ” god there is too much fudge frosting!”   Well it just kind of sucked. So I took all that suckiness out on body pump after work!

They. Were.   Amazing!!!!!!    Taste like carbs!!!!   I put mine in my pasta red sauce.

1. Roast 2 cups of butternut squash on olive with salt and pepper

2. In large bowl mash the squash and add 1 cup of almond meal, 1 clove of garlic , a tsp of salt, a tsp of paprika and 2 eggs.  Mix that all together.  Make balls and drop them into a large pot of boiling water. Let them boil for 15mins.  Pull them out and serve!!!!!

like I said I put them in my red sauce and London loved them!!!!  I was so happy to see my daughter eat a healthy meal that she enjoyed!! Happy momma moment!!!   Yeses Brandon ate them too!!  #success#thestruggleisreal#proud#balls

Two Meatballs: #progress

You guyyys!!!!  You know what day it is…workout with Sandra day!!!!  But first we wanted to show you guys another little progress report of our workouts!!!  Sandra Axman of Innovative Fitness Training reached out to us in April and our first workout was 24th!!!  We were weak and out of shape and I think we both thought we were going to legitimately dieeeeee after our first session.  But Sandra’s enthusiasm was enough to hook us and we knew that working out was going to have to be a huge part of this new life. We look sooooooo different!!!!  But I think it is hilarious and ironic that we are wearing almost identical outfits!!!  Ok on to todays ass whipping.  Today was all about agility and endurance….two words I didn’t know that I hated until today!  Winky face Sandra…sort of! So we were locked out when we pulled up and made our own fun in the parking lot!

Two Meatballs: That’s alotta Pork!!!

It’s that time of the week again!!!

Let the cooking begin!!! Jenny and I have really focused these segments on a single meal and we’ve had some requests for an entire days worth of food.  We thought this was a great idea and since we are so both super busy we decided to center this adventure around one key ingredient…bc we know you all are busy too!  Today the key ingredient was pulled pork!!!

We wanted to think of something that we could repurpose into three different enough meals that you don’t want to hurl yourself off of a balcony if you have to eat it one more time!  So here is the recipe: Combine all of these ingredients into a slow cooker and cook on low for 12 hours.

Using this as our base we decided I would tackle breakfast.  I made a spicy bbq scramble.

I took about a cup of the pulled pork and heated it over medium heat with two handfuls of spinach, 1 small container of pico and half of a bag of broccoli and three eggs. Stir mixture and cook for about 10 minutes!  Add hot sauce, lime juice and cilantro to taste!

I ate it for breakfast this morning and it was sooooo yummy!

Jenny and I both collaborated on lunch!!!  We decided to do pulled pork lettuce boats with cole slaw and sweet potato chips!  Yum right!?

We had to make our own paleo mayo for the cole slaw which was an experience!!!

Then we mixed it with the other ingredients to make a yummy classic bbq style cole slaw!

Then onto the Sweet potato fries…

These are a total staple…I make this at least once a week!

4 medium sweet potatoes sliced and coated in sesame oil with kosher salt and black pepper to taste, roost on 425 for 20 minutes.  Then in a romaine lettuce boat we put a healthy scoop of pulled pork, a healthy scoop of cole slaw and some sweet potato chips on the side!

Then for dinner Jenny made some zucchini fries…we were both ready for something new and wanted a more traditional but healthy bbq plate with veggies!
